  • In the census taken on the night of 30th March 1851 Sarah was the head of the household. The address was Saline, Fife, Scotland. Her children Janet and Ann were living with her, along with Andrew Black, a grandson aged 15 who is working as a carter and who was born in Saline.

    7 February 1851 - She was a widow aged 70 when she was admitted. It was on condition that her two sons (one named Andrew) repay a moity of whatever sums may be expended on her by the Parochial Board. (We viewed the book in the Fife Archives a number of years ago).
