Primary events

Secondary circumstances

Some aspects of Benjamin Hunt's life. Lucy PETTITT is mentioned in the first will of Benjamin (1829), but gets her right to live in a cottage for life rescinded in the codicil. This Lucy has a document in the Suffolk Archives - Bastardy order FB133/G7/3 16th Apr. 1805 - James Lockwood of Thorndon has to pay funds to the church towards the maintenance of a male bastard child of Lucy Pettit. The same man is listed again in 1815, and then Charles LAMBERT of Thorndon in 1818. All relate to an unnamed female child, so I am not sure if this is just the one, or 2 or 3.

Estates Planned & Unplanned

The will left by Benjamin on 6 April 1830 reads as follows: Will of Benjamin HUNT of Occold, Suffolk - Paraphrased - and only information leading to identifying relatives has been transcribed. Omitted portions are marked ----- and substituted texts are marked [xxxxxx]
I have the 6 files, and will gladly pass on to any interested parties.
I Benjamin HUNT of Occold, Suffolk, Yeoman
----- unto my Son Ely HUNT of Occold, labourer, ----- the cottage called the Barn Cottage in Occold ------ now in occupation of William HUNT and John AGGES. Also my Cottage in Occold ---- now in the occupation of Mary BANHAM ----. [Ely is to pay to] my daughter Sarah HUNT, single woman, for her life, an annuity of £1 ------
------ unto my Son Robert HUNT of Occold, labourer, a cottage now in the occupation of Middleton NORMAN and Benjamin HUNT, and also the cottage now in the occupation of the said Robert [the legatee] -------
------ unto my son James HUNT of Oakley, wheelwright,----the cottage in Occold now in the occupation of Lucy PETTITT, John BRUNDLEY and William LING ---- But my will and mind is that the said Lucy PETTITT shall be entitled to have and enjoy the occupation and use of that part of the said [cottage] in which she now resides for the term of her natural life without paying any rent for the same. And my will further is that my said son James HUNT ----- shall, during the life of the said Lucy PETTITT ----- keep that part in good and tenable repair.
I also devise unto my daughter -- Sarah HUNT ---- my [cottage] in Occold ---- now in her own occupation ---- for the term of her natural life, and after her decease I ------ [leave the same] to James HUNT now residing in London (son of the said Sarah HUNT) forever.
I direct all my debts ------ shall be aid in equal shares and portions by my sons Ely HUNT, Robert HUNT and James HUNT and my daughter Sarah HUNT respectively out of my said real estate ----
I bequeath unto my son Robert HUNT the bed and bedstead which I now use and all my clothes ------.
I also forgive or bequeath unto the said Lucy PETTITT all arrears of account (if any) which may be due and owing from her to me at the time of my decease in respect of the cottage now in her occupation.
I bequeath all the rest residue and remainder of my real and personal estate and effects whatsoever unto and to be equally divided between and amongst my three sons and one daughter [those already mentioned]
[Robert and James were appointed executors]
The will was signed 6th February 1829 in the presence of John PITTUCK, James DEBENHAM and James ADAMS.

A codicil follows:
[He revoked the portion pertaining to Lucy PETTITT and the rent free cottage, he changed some of the property bequests between sons (but not as far as I can tell disinheriting anyone)]
[The cottage in the occupation of William HUNT mentioned in the earlier will he now] bequeaths to his granddaughter Mabella the wife of Henry LAST of Occold.
signed 11th June 1829 in the presence of Elizabeth PITTUCK, Alice GRANDFIELD and John PITTUCK.

ALL the notations in the book indicate that there were NO EFFECTS left.
