Anecdote - Musings and Reasonings

Research note (complicated): In 1911 there is a married Maude BLAKE, living as a boarder. HOWEVER, she says had been married for 20 years and has had 3 children, all still alive. She is the only person on the form, and is living in 1 room. She was 'of private means'. She was 38, and was born in Hempton Norfolk (no such place)

Looking at the previous sheet, at the same address (26 Morton Road, Wandsworth) there is a large family named MORRISON. They are occupying 7 rooms.

One thing going for us, is that there was NO Maud(e) BLAKE in the 1901 census, so she may have been fibbing about the length of her marriage (and children?)

To flick back to the 1903 marriage, there is a Maude Emma RANYELL birth rego in Dec 1874 in Hackney. In 1881 this girl was with Parents Alexr R and Lavinia RENNYALL and several siblings in the same place. Father Alexr was a commercial clerk.

Then I found another thing going for us, in 1901 Maud RANYELL was in Toxteth Park (unmarried), occupation Draper's assistant (same as Hugh's). She was boarding with Adam HUMPHRIES, an American born master tailor, and his family. Her place of birth was Clapham.

Discounted - In the 1911 census there is a widowed Rosa F BLAKE living with her parents John R and Mary E CULLEY . She has with her a daughter named Dorothy F Culley BLAKE aged 6. She says her current marriage lasted less than 1 year, and if we assume she was meaning the marriage that produced her only child with her for the census, then all the dates fit.

The daughter Dorothy Jane C BLAKE was registered in Yarmouth Mar qtr 1905

HOWEVER, I don't think this is the woman who married Hugh, as there is also a marriage between Rosa Jane CULLEY and John Richard BLAKE in West ham in Dec 1903. John Richard died in West Ham Sep qtr 1904, aged 27. His birth was registered in West Ham Dec qtr 1875.
