In 1892 William and Percy were tried and found guilty of shop breaking and larceny therein. William (the eldest) got 4 calendar months hard labour, and Percy got 1 week. In April 1896 (he was now 22 and 5'2") he was tried for larceny and got 6 months. Confirmed he was the same man as both had red hair.5

Military Career

Records show that William Benjamin Boyce served in the armed forces. William attested into the Royal Artillary in 1889 when he was 15. His trade was musician BEFORE joining up. He was 4' 8" and weighed 80 lbs, hair redish brown. He only served until March 1890, being discharged as unlikely to become a useful soldier. His record also shows that prior to his discharge he spent 50 days in hospital with an injury to his left knee.
