MEMBERS are requested to attend the Funeral of our late Brother, John A. Austin, leaving his son’s residence, “Fairmount,” East Devonport, TO-DAY, at 12.30 p.m., for interment at Don Cemetery. H. Clayton, R.S. from The North West Post 19th January 1915

Mr. John A. Austin, a well known resident of the North-West Coast, died suddenly shortly before 12 o’clock last night at the residence of his son, Mr. Henry Austin, East Devonport. The deceased was a native of Launceston, and came to the Mersey district in 1854. He first settled at Ballahoo, near Latrobe, and subsequently removed to Don, where he was engaged in contracting for several years. He was one of the founders of the Don branch of the M.U., I.O.O.F., which has since amalgamated with the Mersey lodge, and he remained a member up to the time of his death. For the past 26 years, Mr. Austin has been carrying out farming pursuits at Sisters Creek. He was 74 years of age, and was twice married, leaving a large grown up family. One of his sons is at present serving with the Australian Expeditionary Force. The funeral will take place at the Don cemetery on Tuesday.
The North West Post 18th January 1915
