Research Notes

  • Research note 01: I assume they had children, as the High Sherrif of Hereford and Worcester in 1981 was Richard Chevallier Green, of The Whittern, Lyonshall, Kington.
  • Research note 02: Constance appears to be a relation by marriage to H RYDER HAGGARD - Charles Edward Maddison Green was born in Suffolk in 1835; in 1869 he married the sister of W.Rider Haggard. Taking up Holy Orders he was appointed to the living of Lyonshall in 1866. His two sisters lived at "The Whittern", Lyonshall, so presumably the Rev (later Preb.) Maddison Green was related to Richard Green who rebuilt that house in 1879. In that year the vicarage house at Lyonshall was inspected, immediately condemned and in its place there arose a large and expensive parsonage (it cost £2,753). Built of Penrhos stone with dressings of Grinshill white stone, and in a Tudor-gothic style there are numerous gables and mullioned/ transomed windows, but the building has a somewhat course appearance, even though it is set in fine gardens, with a lake. It was designed by Richard Yates of Admaston, Shropshire. In 1878 he was noted as the contractor for the restoration of Llangunllo church, however by 1879 he was able to sign himself "Architect" for the Lyonshall vicarage plans. Ewen Christian required numerous alterations, before he would pass the plans. From http://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/htt/smrSearch/Monuments/Monument_Item.aspx?ID=35462.
