Research Notes

  • Research note 01: May have been found in 1851 census living as a visitor with Hannah GIBBS in Ilfracombe. He was an unmarried pauper farmer. His brother John is the only other CHUGG to nominate Bittadon as their place of birth in the 1851 census. In 1841 this person could be on the farm of Robert COATES in Ilfracombe - a 60 year old farm worker. He was not found in 1861 census. There are 2 deaths in Barnstaple of a George CHUGG (no age quoted) in the decade. Mar qtr 1859 and Jun qtr 1860. I have found mention that many years ago the Infracombe Museum was supplying burial details, so I sent off an email to them asking for assistance (2013).
