Military Career

Records show that William Samuel Aldis served in the armed forces. William enlisted into the army in August, but was discharged after serving 11 days, as medicially unfit. His papers show that he - very unusually for the time - 6' 4", and he had a chest measurement of 35.5", with an expansion of 4", and his physical development was 'good'. Almost all the WW1 records I have perused show expansion of aprox 2", so even though he was 'unfit', he was a very big man. He died just 6 months after this.3
