Military Career

Records show that Arthur Ernest Ayers served in the armed forces. He enlisted into the 6th Bat., Norfolk Regiment (cyclists) in 1908. He was in the Norfolk and the Suffolk Cyclists with regular entries on his service card. He was made a Sergent at some time, as this was his rank when he was discharged in 1916. He did not go overseas.

In 1917 Arthur Ernest AYERS, aged 38, was up before the Millitary Exemption Board, and was given a temporary exepmtion, as his brother was in the forces, and had the Cycling business to run.

In August 1917 he was in the RNAS. The card shows his occupation (Cycle Agent) and his wife's name - and his DOB. It looks as if he was on the 'President' and the 'Dacdalus' around 1917.9
