He and his wife were on horseback, on the way to a meeting of the Hunt. A steam truck came up behind the 2 horsemen, and one of the horses, The Right Hon's, took fright. Charles was thrown into the path of the lorry. He was not hit by the truck, but died of a fractured skull some time after being conveyed home.
