Anecdote - Musings and Reasonings

Research note (complicated): A Samuel BASE married Mary LAY in Southwark in 1808. William married a widow of the same name in Yarmouth as his second wife in 1849 in Whitechapel. I just bet this is the same woman, even though William would have been her 3rd husband, and her name was actually Mrs LILLEY when they married.

Children of Samuel and Mary were : William b 13th March 1809, Chr in Spitalfields; Mary Chr 7th Feb 1819 in; John Chr 23rd April 1815; Jane Chr 16th Sep 1821; George Chr 25th Dec 1825; Catherine Chr 26th Feb 1823; Samuel Chr 10th Jan 1813; Joseph Chr 4th Aug 1816; Eliza Cozens Chr 28th Jun 1829. All in Whitechapel except William.

Samuel died in Castle Street Whitechapel, buried in St Mary's 8th Feb 1829.

Mary married 2nd John LILLEY. They were with some of Mary's BASE children in 1841 census - Church Street, Whitechapel. John was of independent means, and was aged 72 (20 years older than Mary)..

Research Notes

  • Research note 01: Bound to be the man who owned leasehold property in Princes Street Norwich - Docs in NRO.12
  • Research note 01: Mary and William are not in 1861 census in England. Now the original registers are available on Family Search I looked in St Michael Coslany to see if they were buried there, and I can confirm they do not appear in the register.
  • Research note 01: Mortgaged property.13
