He went from Private to (at least) Sgt. He was in India for over 7 years. He was married to mary Ann SALES in Lambeth 9th June 1878 (reg June qtr 1878). He had children Ethel Mary 1879, Maud Alice 6th July 1881 and Florence Edith 19th Sep 1886.2

He was an army pensioner and an iron workers clerk. of the 3 daughters, one was a draper's assistant and the other was a teacher..
