DNA Research Notes

Research note Re DNA test(s): You have a gedcom at GEDmatch. I have only just got my results from Ancestry and have uploaded to ftdna and gedmatch.

I am searching the gedcoms for known names, and I came across this. 2017-06-21 19:39:55 kathfa@hotmail.co.uk 5541827 : P1966 William Aldis, b. 1823, New Buckenham, Norfolk, England, d. Sep 1891, Norfolk, England , FATHER: ??, MOTHER: ??

I believe this is William who was Chr in New Buckenham 27th Jan 1823, parents Benjamin ALDIS and Lydia nee Thurkettle

I have this person in my database.

Unfortunately I doubt I am a blood relative of this person, (even though I have many ALDIS people who are) so we cant' confirm this from our tests. Just passing this on to assist with a suggestion..

Anecdote - Musings and Reasonings

Research note (complicated): One William ALDIS of New Buckenham is with his in laws in 1851 as a widower. He has with him his son Arthur William.

HOWEVER - in Sep 1850, there is a William fathering a child named Daniel Charles ALDIS. Child's mother (and obviously William's wife) is Sarah. The 1861 census shows that the William married to Sarah is also a carpenter born at about the same time as the one who was a widower of Mary Ann.

It appears that the first marriage was to a Mary Ann ALLEN in march Qtr 1845, so I am unsure just where the BILHAM couple fit in. This marriage is NOT in free reg.

The second marriage may be Mar qtr 1849, to Sarah NAPTHEN. This is also NOT in Free reg. Sarah is NOT the woman who died in New Buckenham in 1851, as this lady was 67 years old.

And then of course I found Sarah and William in the 1851 census in New Buckenham.

WE HAVE 2 OPTIONS. Either there were 2 William ALDIS men, both carpenters, born in New Buckenham at about the same time, OR William was entered on the census form twice. With his son from his first wife, as well as his first wife's relatives, and again with his seond wife. Of course getting hold of the marriage certificate of the second marriage will clear this up.

I initially went with my second option. In error - of course. I found that there were indeed 2 (or more) William ALDIS born in New Buckenham at around this time, and both carpenters. one of which was the illegitimate son of Sarah, and the grandson of Francis. I don't know if he was the one who married BILHAM or the one who married Sarah..
