Anecdote - Musings and Reasonings

Research note (complicated): May be the father of Mary Ann SLOLEY's illegitimate child. In March 1851 he was summoned for maintenance. The newspaper reported marry Ann's name as STOLEY, but this is NOT a name seen in the area. Mary Ann SLOLEY was with her parents Hugh and Mary in Ilfracombe, and there was a grandson of the couple also in the house Frederick born 3 months before the census in Ilfracombe. Name of the mother later confirmed from the Bastardy records. Frederick disappears from the records after 1851, so he may have taken Mary Ann's husband's name after she married. I think this was in 1857, to either SYMONS or BARRETT.

Looks like he was a repeat offender too. george was also summonds by Mary BLACKFORD regarding the paternity of her child in 1846.11,12,13

Research Notes

  • Research note 01: In 1841 William was farming 'Hole'. After William died, Mary his wife married George CHUGG, who took over the farm..
