Secondary circumstances

  • Occupation: Andrew was a farmer.9
  • Name Variation: He was also known as Andrew Bertram Chugg.1
Some aspects of Andrew Bertrand Chugg's life. A cutting from the Hobart Mercury says 'Walter Barker and Andrew Chugg, two youths, were rabbit shooting at Corra Linn to-day, when Chugg, on firing at a rabbit with a pea rifle, lodged the bullet in Barker's breast, on the left side, just above the heart. The injured youth was brought into Launceston, and attended by Dr. Clemens, who was unable to locate the bullet, but another attempt will be made to-morrow. Barker was employed by Chugg's's father, who is a farmer, and is now lying at his parents' house in Charles Street.

Estates Planned & Unplanned

The will left by Andrew Bertrand on 24 December 1947 reads as follows: Andrew Bertrand CHUGG of Cora Linn, Relbia, Tasmania, farmer. I appoint Frank CHUGG of Western Junction, Tasmania, farmer, and Stenley Gordon GREEN of Penquite near Launceston, Law Accountant, executors and trustees. I give and bequeath the whole of my estate to my wife Eva May Priscilla CHUGG - BUT if my wife predeceases me then I give and bequeath £4,00 to my daughter Muriel REILLY the wife of Ernest Thomas REILLY or to her children if she also predeceases him. I give £1,00 to my son Charles. I give my property known as "esk View' in Relbia (30 acres) in trust to Charles for his life, and then to his children. I bequeath all that portion of my property known as Corra Linn in Relbia (exact boundaries are listed) to my son Vernon Harold CHUGG. If he is dead this property becomes part of Andrew's residual estate. I bequeath the remaining portion of Corra Linn to my son David Richard under the same rules as previous entry. If either Vernon or David go first, AND leave children, then Andrews leaves them £2,500 equally divided, and if no children, then to their respective wives Queenie Victoria CHUGG and Ivy May CHUGG if such exist. His shearing equipment and wool press are also left to Vernon and David jointly. The residue of the estate was left upon trust to be shared amongst any surviving of his 4 children.10
