Records show that Matthew Patterson served in the armed forces. Matthew's attestation papers, in the name of PATTERSON, show that he signed up in 1896 in Great Yarmouth. He joined the Royal Artillary as a gunner for a period of 7 years, with 5 more in the reserve. He was discharged 13th June 1919 as a corporal. Her served almost 19 years.
