Military Career

Records show that Cyril William Chugg served in the armed forces. Cyril attested 4th April 1916 into the 40th Battalion AIF. He was a 19-year-old farmer, father William. On the front page there is a question 'Have you ever served in...... He originally answered Yes, but this was changed to No (evaded service!!)
* By November 1916, he had been transferred to the 49th Battalion. He was in hospital, sick, from 11th Dec 1916 to 24th Jan 1917, and again from 10th March 1917 until 6th May 1917.
* Then in August, he was found guilty of 'Conduct to the prejudice of good order when he fell out of a working party on the way to the front line. He was 'awarded' 20 days F.P. No 2. (Does this mean he was shat on by the Fornicating Police?)
* Then he got sick again - sent to hospital 17th Sep 1917. Whilst in hospital, he was taking part in a Sports Parade, and got an injury to his nose. The record affirms this was NOT a self-inflicted injury. He returned to his unit 23rd October 1917.
* Sick again 18th Jan 1917, in hospital with VD until 16th April. There is a record card that I can send to any interested party regarding treatment etc dated 13th march 1919 Treatment must have taken place in London, as he returned to Australia 3rd September 1919 on the Takada
* Cyril was also involved in WW2, but his records are not yet available on line.10,13 Records show that Cyril William Chugg served in the armed forces. Cyril served in WW 1 and appears on the Honour Roll at St James Anglican Church, Franklin Village. He also served in WW2.14,15
