Military Career

Records show that George Ames Patterson served in the armed forces. George served in the Durham Home Guard (8th Battalion) in WW2. His papers, as obtained by Sid PATTERSON, show that he was a lieutenant in the 8th DLI Home Guard. He joined 21st June 1940, and was demobbed in Dec 1945. He was also in WW1, but I have yet to research that fully. I have not found any attestment papers, but I did find a medal card for George A PATTERSON, who was first a corporal then a sergeant in the Yorkshire Regiment. His number was 12335. His WW1 photo shows stripes.4,5
