Research Notes

  • Research note 01: Email from Georgina TAYLOR

I am the granddaughter of Dorothy Verna Taylor (nee Chittock). Her father was John Edward Chittock and mother was Sarah Chittock and she grew up at 63 Campbell Street, Brockmoor, Brierley Hill before marrying my Grandad, Reginald Taylor from Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.

Dorothy, my grandma had two siblings - Mary Elizabeth Beddall (nee Chittock) and Austin Chittock.

My grandparents Dorothy and Reginald had two sons, my Dad, Stephen David Taylor and my Uncle, John Geoffrey Taylor.

I am one of two children from Stephen My name is Georgina Lesley Taylor and my brother is Lawrence Stephen Taylor. My Mum is Lesley Sandra Taylor (nee Brown) - they are still happily married :)

My Dad's brother, married Sue Parker and and had two children, Hayley Taylor (now Hayley Briggs) and Rebecca Taylor (now Rebecca Smith).

Dorothy and Reginald moved to a village in Derbyshire in the 1960's called Netherseale. My Grandad still lives there (he is 88 now) but sadly Dorothy, my grandma passed away in 2006. I grew up with my Mum, Dad and brother in a town a few miles from there called Ashby de la Zouch, but I moved to Birmingham (to near my Black Country Chittock routes 6 years ago!). I am 26 years old.

Uncle John and his wife still live in Netherseale.

My grandma Dorothy was an extremely intelligent lady - infact, the year before she died, she did her 'GCSE' in maths and got top marks at Burton upon Trent college as a mature student and when she died, she was in the middle of studying for her A - Level in psychology!!!! (GCSE's are the national exams for young adults at school age 16 and A-Levels are the national curriculum exams for 17/18 year olds, leading them to university). She was an animal lover and bred dogs (welsh, wire and Lakeland terriers) and their 'breed line' of dogs was renowned world wide in the dog world and she also had two donkeys!

There is a very striking resemblance in our family which stems from the Chittock line - Blonde/Fair hair is the strong gene, with wide set eyes; myself, my dad Stephen, my brother and cousin Hayley all strongly look like my grandma Dorothy. My mother has very dark hair, as does my grandad so blonde is definitely strong from the Chittock side..
