Census details

Some aspects of Mark Luke Culling's life. Mark had 3 wives, and it appears all 4 are buried in the same plot in Campsall. There is an archived web site, some of which I have copied here (as I am not sure how long it will stay available) -

"Sarah Harriet 1876, wife of Mark Culling"
"Susan 1891, wife of Mark Culling"
"Lucy 1922, wife of Mark Culling"
"Mark Culling 1925 - at peace"

Next to this was "Mark Culling, born February 11th 1801 died 1881 and Caroline Culling born November 14th 1817", Mark's parents.

The writer of this article (who is unnamed) says he is a Great Nephew of Mark. He goes on to say: My great great grandfather, again Mark Culling, also a Gamekeeper, married Caroline Chapman in Yelverton, Norfolk in 1835. Great Uncle Mark told us that his grandfather and Caroline were working at Earlham Hall in Norfolk and the eldest son of the hall, Frederick Bacon-Frank, after he married, offered Mark the elder the chance to go to the estate at Campsall.

As Caroline suffered from rheumatism she thought it might be drier in Yorkshire and persuaded her husband to go north - alas Yorkshire was just as damp as Norfolk!

I was told later that the author of the above was Harold CULLING, who compiled this long before the internet made things easy. His widow is Joyce, and I believe they started the Liverpool Historical Society.
