Research Notes

  • Research note 02: Rachael's mother is named as page in her christening, therefore confirms the marriage found in free reg.
    * A family tree on Ancestry ( Robert BAKER 1800 - Owner: Richard Baker) says 21st Sptember 1790. The Ancestry tree does not have the 2 oldest children John (1785) and Susannah (1787)..
  • Research note 01: Possible christened is 24th December 1752 in St Margaret's South Elmham. He was 18 months at the time, parents John and Ann BAKER - Free Reg. An Ann Baker, wife of John, was buried in All Saints 18th August 1771,
    * Another possibility from IGI, not found in free reg, is an illegitimate birth to a Mary BAKER in Suffolk 25th March 1750
    * There was a marriage between John BAKER and Ann MONEY 11th Nov 1750 in Little Saxham, but I doubt this is his parents as there was a John and Ann having children christened in Little Saxham for a few years after this marriage.
  • Research note 03: There is a gap of 15 years between the marriage and the first christening found in Free Reg. I have found a burial of a John BAKER aged 6 5th May 1784 in All Saint's South Elmham, which is the same church that John (2nd) was christenend in a little over a year later. Family Search (IGI) has parents as John BAKER and Mary PAGE. I am recording other children found in EXTRACTED records shown in IGI for John BAKER and Mary 'blank' in South Elmham as children of this couple - without firm confirmation that they are the all siblings..
  • Research note 04: Looking into the Jonathan who was the witness at the marriage. There are few Jonathan BAKER's around. This one is most likely the one who was buried in St Margaret's South Elmham 9th April 1820 aged 77 (therefore DOB 1743).
    * There are 3 possibilities showing in the various indexes (but of course there would be many not yet transcribed)
    1. Named John in the index, a son of Jonathan and Mary BAKER christened in St James South Elmham 24th Jun 1744, (Free Reg)
    2. Son of John and Ann christened in Hadleigh 27th Oct 1743 (IGI).
    * There is a Jonathan christened 26th December 1732 in St James ELMHAM, son of Jonathan and Margaret BAKER. No burial identified in the area for this chap in Free Reg, IGI nor National Burial Index.
