Charlotte, incorrectly named as BALLS, is the niece of James and Maria BALLS, but note that I have not confirmed this by finding the relationship between James or Maria and Charlotte's parents.
  • In 1861 in Great Yarmouth Charlotte Elizabeth Catchpole was included in the household of Mary CLARKE, a shoebinder. Charlotte is an unmarried boarder working at the silk factory.
  • In the census taken on the night of 2nd April 1871, Charlotte Elizabeth was the wife of the head of the household, Thomas Pollard Thompson. The address was Row 28, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Charlotte is shown as Thomas' wife even though they did not marry until 1873. Their children Louisa, David, Isabel and Elizabeth were living with them Her children John, Robert and Frederick were living with her.
  • In the census taken on the night of 3rd April 1881, Charlotte Elizabeth was the wife of the head of the household, Thomas Pollard Thompson. The address was 12 Row 28, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. Their children Louisa, David, Isabel, Elizabeth, Selina, Frederick and Maude were living with them, along with Charles William Thompson a grandson, illegitimate son of Louise Sarah THOMPSON. He was listed as a son, but we have confirmation from the birth certificate that he was Louisa's son.
  • In the census taken on the night of 5th April 1891, Charlotte Elizabeth was the wife of the head of the household, Thomas Pollard Thompson. The address was 7 Row 28, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England. And a grandson George THOMPSON aged 6 born in Yarmouth.

Info from Raymond, "info from Rex Mundi," e-mail to unknown recipient, Isabella Catchpole (nee Thompson), Charlotte's mother, died at home in Row 4, which was up in the Northgate area of Yarmouth, on 22 November 1864 from TB which she had suffered from for 4 years. Her age is given as 44. A Mary Ann Catchpole was with her at her death (she may have been a daughter of sister-in-law).
  5. Info from Raymond, "info from Rex Mundi," e-mail to unknown recipient, Richard Catchpole, Charlotte's father, died in the armouth Workhouse, which was on Northgate Street & is now a hospital, on 2 Feb 1871 from bronchitis. Edward Sims, who was the master of the workhouse, was supposedly in attendance. Richard's age is given as 66 & his occupation as Gardener's Labourer.

Info from Raymond, "info from Rex Mundi," e-mail to unknown recipient, Charlotte Elizabeth Thompson died on 4 Dec 1896 at home 45, Tyrolean Square in the Cobholm area of Great Yarmouth (I remember the old square well as my wife lived not far away - alas pulled down now for development!). She died from a sudden heart attack - her age is given as 53 (she was baptised in Caister-on-Sea on 6 April 1845) & her husband Thomas Pollard-Thompson was with her when she died & his occupation is given as Waterman. He didn't have much luck with his choice of wives!
