Census details

Some aspects of Emmeline Blake's life. Emmeline died when she was 30, and was living at the time in St Jude's Parsonage, Southsea. She was the mother of a child also named Emmeline BLAKE, who was buried in 1870 in the family plot. I assumed the child was illegitimate but further searching brought out a marriage between Emmeline and Joseph Sewell BLAKE in Sep qtr 1868.

Research Notes

  • Research note 01: There is a child buried in the family plot in Bramerton who has an eroded small cross. It says - .....died May 1870 the child of Emmeline Blake. There is a note in the headstone transcriptions that says this is most likely Emmeline Mary Sewell aged 6 months.
The transcription of the parish register that forms part of the docs relating to the headstone of the Bramerton Churchyard says 25th Feb 1876 Emmeline BLAKE, aged 30 of St Jude.s Parsonage, Southsea, 3rd daughter of John Joseph BLAKE (d1881), Sister of Adelaide (see aboe), mother of Emmeline (d 1870).
