  • In the census taken on the night of 6th June 1841 John was included in the household of John Blake in Little Magdalene Street, Thetford, Suffolk, England along with Elizabeth Blake. He was aged 5 years.. John, aged 7, is John's illegitimate grandchild, son of Rebecca.
  • In 1851 in Hopton by Thetford John Blake was included in the household of Sarah NOBLE and her son. John was a lodger, and was born in Thelnetham, some 3 miles from Barningham.
  • In 1861 John Blake was included in the census schedule of. He was aged 25 years.

Military Career

Records show that John Blake served in the armed forces. In 1861 John was aboard HMS Cyclops, but was a 'Private', so was not in the Navy. He was part of the Royal Marine contingent aboard. They were, or at least had been, in East Indies and China. The ship was a Paddle Wheel Frigate, launched in 1839 and sold in 1864.
