  • Research note 01: He may have been employed at Colman's Mustard. He may have, in later years, been involved in the art business.
    Newspaper reports in 1875 have a Charles CLOWES appearing in the Electoral bribery court cases in which Colman's were a feature, and in 1898 a man with the same name is given the right by one of the COLMAN men (in his Will) to choose paintings to the value of £5,000 for the Norwich Museum. In recognition of Charles services to Jermiah James COLMAN in selecting pictures, he was left £250. In 1891 Charles was living in Carrow Road, an address associated with Colmans'.
