  1. Free parish registers, online, PHILLIP CHUGG
    Parents: Amey & Phillip Chugg
    baptism date: 07 Dec 1691
At East Down Near Barnstaple, Devon.

Summary first - I can see you were thinking that the Philip who was the father of Philip chr 1691 may have been the same man who married Honour, making the GILL marriage a second marriage for Philip. Unfortunately, the fact that the Philip who was born in 1691 was the illegitimate son of Amey CHUGG means NOT.

This is what I did -

I found the PR on free reg - Philip son of Amey was illegitimate

         County      Devon. Place      East Down.
    Church name      St John.
    Register type      Parish Register.
    Baptism date      7 Dec 1691.
    Person forename      Phillip.
    Person sex      M.
    Mother forename      Amey.
    Mother surname      CHUGG.
         Notes      Base son.
No other children recorded fro Amey, but an Edward and Susan CHUGG were having children chr in the same place before and after this Chr. I have this couple in may database.

The parents of Edward are Edward and Thamsin. I don't have a sister for Edward Jnr named Amey, but there are sisters who are unacc9unted for in later records. She is possibly one of these, and her name has been mis-transcribed in the Chr record.

I found the marriage of Amey later -

         County      Devon. Place      East Down.
    Church name      St John.
    Register type      Parish Register.
    Marriage date      6 Apr 1700.
    Groom forename      John.
    Groom surname      SLOCOMBE.
    Groom occupation      Blacksmith.
    Bride forename      Amey.
         Bride surname      CHUGG.
There are 4 SLOCOMBE children in IGI - John 1703, Mary 1707 Margaret 1705 and Richard 1701 all East Down.

In summary, I have not found any sign of Philip in Devon after this birth in the names CHUGG JUGG or SLOCOMBE. I think the marriage to SLOCOMBE is the woman who gave birth to Philip, and there are 4 children from this marriage. It would be possible to follow descendants of this family in the hope some better link turns up.

In the mean time I am adding Amey as the sister of Edward who was married to Susan, with a note to say yet to be proven.
