Research Notes

  • Research note 01: May have been the 18 year old Amelia BEALES who was charged with theft from her master Mr CARMEN of Weston. She was sentenced to 1 month in Wymondham GAOL. (Norfolk Chronicle 21st July 1866). Later there was a drunk and disorderly charge where she was fined £1, but did 7 days, as she was unable to pay the fine. The following year she was sentenced to 7 days riotous conduct in Crown Street 14 days in Ipswich Gaol for using obscene language in Herring Fishery Score in Lowestoft (Norfolk Chronicle 13th April 1867 and Norfolk News 8th August 1868). There is no mention of her death in the papers..
