Brushes with the LAW

In 1873, Aitken was charged with, and found guilty of, assault and breach of the peace. It appears, reading between the lines, that a sum of money was owed to a person (the owe-ee), who then 'contracted' Aitken to accompany him to the house of the owe-er. Forceful demands for payment were made, leaving the owe-er somewhat incapacitated. The owe-ee absconded, leaving the contractor, our Aitken holding the bag. He was fined 7/6 or 10 days in prison. One assumes Aitken was either large or ferocious or both.5
